Microdialysis in Clinical Research

Exploring tissue chemistry

Microdialysis is a monitoring technique that enables detection of small biochemical markers, such as glucose, lactate and puruvate. M Dialysis’s high cut off catheters allow for further detection of larger molecules such as cytokines and other inflammatory markers.

This possibility makes it possible to identify unique markers that can be used for early diagnosis of secondary complications and disease processes and collect free fractions of a drug in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies. It is mini-mally invasive and simple to perform in a clinical setting.

Today there are more than 6.000 scientific microdialysis articles published in several different clinical fields.

For more information about M Dialysis’s clinical research solutions, please contact Katarina Åsberg or your local distributor.

Microdialysis shall not be used as the sole basis for diagnosis or therapy.

Areas of clinical research

Gastrointestinal surgery

Gastrointestinal surgery is associated with a high risk of post-operative complications such as anastomosis leakages and sepsis. Intraperitoneal Microdialysis is a new technique for early detection of complications following surgery.

Liver surgery & transplantation

Intra-hepatic Microdialysis is a new promising method for monitoring of postoperative complications such as liver ischemia, graft rejection, or cholangitis after liver transplantation.

General Metabolism

Microdialysis allows frequent sampling of substances involved in Glucose and lipid metabolism without removing any blood. This makes it possible to perform  research on continuous monitoring of Glucose, Lactate, Pyruvate, and Glycerol.
