Why do I need LABpilot
Q: Why do I need the LAB pilot software? I already have a spreadsheet, a statistics- and a graphics program?
A: LABpilot is none of these. LABpilot is a data navigation program for interpreting your data.
Q: I thought I had my spreadsheet and statistics program for that?
A: Interpreting is about thinking. About quickly scanning through your data in order to grasp the underlying pattern. It is important to be able to extract complex relationships and to use your experience, insight and knowledge for data navigation.
Q. How can one program help me with all that?
A: It is important to understand why LABpilot was developed: When doing biological research we are trying to understand the interrelation between several different variables. We need to look at the individual data in a fast and efficient way. We want to visualize, compare and compute. The spreadsheet and statistics programs are simply too slow and the graphics programs are made for that stunning graph – once we get all the numerical data together.
The company felt a need for a new tool that can integrate all these features into one program. That is why LABpilot was created. What we were looking for was something that works like our brain - in pictures, not numbers. Something so fast that we can formulate a hypothesis and test it immediately!
Q: I am starting to see how easy it would be to have just one program instead of a statistics program, a spreadsheet and then a graphic program to put all the data into afterwards... But the truth is that I feel comfortable with what I have because I have had it for a long time now. I feel I know it and I do not feel like working a lot of extra time just to get five years of work into LABpilot and then having to learn a new program on top of that. It is so much easier just sticking to my old programs.
A: The five years of data stored in your old programs would not take long to transfer into LABpilot! Just copy your spreadsheet columns and paste them into LABpilot – you will not only have them stored as numerical data, they can instantaneously appear as graphs as well.
When it comes to learning a new program, you only need to spend some time with the simple tutorial on the LABpilot CD to notice how easy and user friendly LABpilot really is! The few extra hours you will put on learning LABpilot will be worth it; you put in a few hours in the beginning – you save many hours later!
Q: When you eventually want to present your findings, is it possible to save your work in Power Point for example?
A: It is not only possible it is very easy! When LABpilot was developed one important issue was to be able to present your data easily with it. The program is so fast and easy that you can always discuss your data in front of the computer screen. You can even lecture from LABpilot using a laptop and a data projector. If you get an interesting question you can reanalyze your data right there in front of your audience!
So if I have understood this correctly, LABpilot could replace my spreadsheets, my statistic- and my graphic programs. I can easily store numerical data, text and graphs in the same program and I can also use LABpilot for discussions and lectures because it is so fast and user friendly
